Ma Thanegi

Ma Thanegi became a member of the Lokanat in the mid 1980s.

She was born in Shwebo, Myanmar, and grew up in Yangon. She was educated at the Methodist English High School, the Yangon State School of Fine Arts, the Institute of Economics and the Institute of Foreign Languages (German and French). She is a painter who has exhibited with group shows since December 1967 at the Modern Art Exhibition held at the YMCA. She is also a member of the Peacock Gallery and she has had seven solo shows between 1985 and 1998.

She is a writer and has written many articles on the arts including for the Chris Dodge Gallery website and The Arts of Asia and Asian Art News magazines.

She has written numerous books on Things Myanmar including

“Myanmar Painting: from worship to self imaging”, edited by Ma Thanegi and co-authored with Dr. Khin Maung Nyunt and Sein Myo Myint. (2006. Educational Publishing House, Ho Chi Min City)
